Each One Teach One

Help out for one hour a week, for six weeks. Your contribution will be remembered for a lifetime.
Training and Empowering Youth for a Future in Technology

Become an E1T1 Mentor

You can change a life and change our communities for the better by mentoring an Each1Teach1 intern just a few hours this summer!

Mentors are volunteers who share their work experience, serve as role models, and help interns master skills leading to employment. We recruit both mentors with general skills, including photography, making videos, and creating resumes, as well as mentors proficient with technology, coding, application and website development.  Mentors work with one or more interns, once a week, for at least one hour, for six weeks. They may help remotely, from anywhere in the world. Mentors can support learners master skills, help them build confidence and learn how to find jobs.

Be a volunteer!

One hour a week for six weeks is all it takes to be a *Star!* for a lifetime
We seek volunteer mentors to work remotely with students to help them with questions about training, job search, or first job, encourage them, and share stories about trying to break into the technology field. Help out for one hour a week, for six weeks. Your contribution will be remembered for a lifetime.

Welcome to E1T1, a global technology and engineering education and workforce development nonprofit that empowers individuals, girls and teams to become leaders, creators, and problem-solvers and gain employment in technology. We are delighted to extend the opportunity for you to share your expertise, be a role model, inspire and support an intern or team to tackle real-world problems.

E1T1 equips individuals of all ages with the skills to become tech workers, entrepreneurs and leaders. With the support of volunteer mentors, interns work in teams to code, build websites, and build mobile and other applications that address real-world problems they’ve identified. The program runs from June - July.

Join us and find the right volunteer opportunity for you!

Mentorship

Do you want to volunteer as a mentor? Here are the eligibility details:
  • Mentors must be over the age of 18
  • Mentors can be of any gender
  • Mentors do not need any experience or background in technology
  • Mentors can be E1T1 alumni
  • To mentor a team you will need to register and complete the following information:
    • Consent form
    • Background Check (if applicable)
    • Short biography about yourself
    • Participate in a 30 minute training which includes basics about the program, student safety and participatition requirements

Do mentors need to know how to code before starting E1T1?
E1T1 challenges participants to solve a problem by learning coding, website building, photography, videography and other tech skills and practicing them for nonprofits and other organizations with limited budgets.  To register as a mentor, it's not necessary to have knowledge of coding and/or app builders but it can reduce the time commitment if you are already familiar.
All that mentors need to have is a willingness to learn alongside the girls and help them through a 20+ hour problem-solving process. Registered mentors can also complete an online training to learn more about coding app builders and other components of the program.

What information is gathered for the mentor background check?
To register as a mentor in the USA, we ask that volunteers comply to a background check. This is to ensure the safety of our young participants. We use Checkr.io to run a Name/DOB/SSN verification in addition to a county and nation criminal search. All mentors who have consented to background checks can request copies and check their status at checkr.io by clicking “My background check.”
E1T1 also reserves the right to complete randomized background checks on mentors outside of the USA.
E1T1 requires that all volunteers 18 years of age and older, and any individual who may have direct and unmonitored contact with children, including any individual who regularly provides school related transportation to children, undergo a CORI check. A “CORI check” is an individual’s submission of his/her completed CORI Request Form to the program in accordance with this Policy. All volunteers are asked to submit to a CORI check and are required to fill out a CORi acknowledgement form.

Where can I find the volunteer code of conduct and safety policy?
The E1T1 volunteer code of conduct can be found here and the E1T1 safety policy can be found here.

Volunteer conduct and safety overview:
Setup clear communication guidelines between parents, mentors and participants:
  • Parents must give consent for their children to participate in the program. When girls create accounts, a form will be sent to their parents.
  • You need to set up communication channels between yourself and students that include the parents.
  • All communication mentors have with students must be monitored by the parent or teacher. You can create a messaging group that includes mentor, parent, and the teacher.
  • We do not recommend that mentors exchange phone numbers with students. Instead, teams can communicate via online monitored communications or in sessions with other adults present.
Keep student safety top-of-mind:
  • Mentors should never be alone with only one student.
  • Mentors should never message a student privately via social media or texting.
  • Mentors should never accompany your team alone. A teacher or guardian must accompany team on field-trips or workshops.

Is there other information I should know?
  • If you'd like, you can mentor more than 1 team
  • Mentoring a team is a time commitment. We suggest planning to spend time hours supporting your team each week.
